FedEx, IOSS and Centralised Clearance

Why IOSS matters for FedEx shipments before 1 July 2026

FedEx shipments move through international logistics and customs processes. IOSS helps determine which EU customs route can be used for ecommerce orders entering the EU.

Centralised Clearance explained simply

When goods enter the EU, customs clearance has to happen before the shipment can continue to the customer.

With IOSS, couriers can use Centralised Clearance. This means the customs process can be handled centrally in the EU country where the goods first enter, often the Netherlands, instead of running separate customs procedures in the customer’s destination country.

Without IOSS, Centralised Clearance cannot be used. The shipment must follow the destination country’s customs process instead.

From 1 July 2026, this becomes more important because the new €3 customs duty needs to be handled as part of the import process. Some destination-country customs systems and courier flows are not ready to process the new duty efficiently for non-IOSS shipments.

In simple terms, FedEx and other international logistics networks ask for IOSS because it helps keep EU ecommerce shipments moving through a customs route that can be managed at scale. EAS helps you register, configure your store, collect the correct EU taxes, and prepare for the €3 customs duty.

How it works

How to get your FedEx IOSS number with EAS

The process is designed for ecommerce businesses that need to respond quickly after FedEx, a broker, a fulfilment centre or a shipping platform asks for an IOSS number.

1

Choose your plan

Select the IOSS plan that matches your EU order volume. Plans start from €19.90/month and include registration.

2

Submit your business details

Provide the required company information, and EAS starts the IOSS registration process for your business.

3

Configure your ecommerce store

For supported platforms, EAS helps configure EU VAT and the €3 customs duty where applicable.

4

Use IOSS in your shipping workflow

Once ready, your IOSS number can be used in the relevant FedEx, fulfilment, customs data or courier workflow.

IOSS 1st of July

FedEx IOSS setup and the 1 July 2026 customs change

From 1 July 2026, the EU introduces a temporary €3 customs duty for goods imported into the EU in orders up to €150. If your store, tax setup and customs data are not ready, EU shipping can become harder to manage.

Checkout

Prepare the customer-facing tax flow

EAS helps configure supported stores so EU VAT and the €3 customs duty can be handled at checkout where applicable.

Ongoing compliance

Keep the monthly process automated

EAS automates IOSS reporting and filing so the compliance process does not stop after the number is issued.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about FedEx IOSS registration

These questions are written for businesses that have been asked for an IOSS number by FedEx, a broker, a shipping platform or a fulfilment partner.

Why is FedEx asking me for an IOSS number?

FedEx or your shipping partner may ask for an IOSS number because IOSS supports Centralised Clearance and a cleaner customs flow for EU ecommerce orders. From 1 July 2026, the new €3 customs duty makes a working IOSS setup even more important for orders up to €150.

Can I use EAS IOSS only with FedEx?

No. EAS is not limited to FedEx. You can use your EAS IOSS setup with FedEx and with other courier, postal, fulfilment and logistics partners that require your IOSS number.

Can EAS help me get an IOSS number for FedEx shipping?

Yes. EAS helps businesses register for IOSS, acts as the IOSS intermediary, configures supported online stores, and automates the ongoing reporting and filing process.

Which ecommerce platforms does EAS support?

EAS supports Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Shopware, PrestaShop, custom-built stores and API-based workflows. For supported platforms, online store configuration is included with every IOSS plan.

Can EAS help collect the €3 customs duty?

Yes. EAS can help prepare your store and checkout process so the new €3 customs duty can be collected where it applies, alongside the EU VAT setup required for IOSS.

Why does Centralised Clearance matter for FedEx?

With IOSS, couriers can use Centralised Clearance, meaning the customs process can be handled in the EU country where the goods first enter. Without IOSS, Centralised Clearance cannot be used and the shipment must follow the destination country’s customs process instead.

Is IOSS registration included in EAS plans?

Yes. EAS IOSS plans include IOSS registration, IOSS intermediary service, automated data collection, reporting and filing, and free online store configuration for supported platforms.

Is “loss intermediary” the same as IOSS intermediary?

No. “Loss intermediary” is usually a typing mistake. The correct term is IOSS intermediary. EAS provides IOSS intermediary service, IOSS registration, automated reporting and online store configuration.

Is EAS part of FedEx?

No. EAS is an independent IOSS registration and compliance automation provider. We help businesses that use FedEx or other logistics providers obtain and operate their IOSS setup.
