Celebrate Europe Day by Expanding Your Sales to Europe with EAS
Europe Day is a celebration of the unity and diversity of the European continent. It is the perfect occasion to think about the opportunities that the European market can offer to your business. At EAS, we are here to help companies expand their sales to Europe and celebrate the spirit of Europe Day by opening up new possibilities for your business.
There are many reasons why it is worth selling to the EU and UK markets
- Huge market: The EU and UK represent a significant consumer market, with a combined population of over 500 million people. This presents a huge opportunity for businesses looking to expand their customer base and increase their revenue.
- Purchasing power: The EU and UK are some of the wealthiest markets in the world, with high levels of disposable income. This means that consumers in these markets are willing to spend more on quality products and services, which can lead to higher profit margins for businesses.
- Business friendliness: The EU and UK have well-established legal and regulatory frameworks that make it relatively easy for businesses to sell their products and services. This includes standardised tax and customs regulations, as well as consumer protection laws that ensure a level playing field for businesses of all sizes.
- Online shopping habits: The EU and UK have some of the most advanced e-commerce infrastructures in the world, with high levels of internet penetration and widespread use of online shopping platforms. This makes it easier for businesses to sell their products and services online, and to reach a wider audience.
Overall, selling to the EU and UK markets is highly beneficial for businesses looking to expand their customer base and increase their revenue. While there are some regulatory and logistical challenges to consider, the potential benefits make it worth exploring these markets further.

Importance of collecting taxes and following tax laws in the EU and UK
Collecting EU and UK taxes and being compliant is important for several reasons.
First, collecting taxes at the checkout improves the customer experience. By including taxes and duties in the initial pricing, backers know exactly what they will be paying upfront, without any hidden fees or surprises. This helps build trust with your backers and increase the likelihood of them supporting your campaign and the next one.
Second, collecting taxes at the checkout reduces the chances of returns. When customers are hit with unexpected taxes and duties after the product has been shipped, they are much more likely to return the product, which is costly and time-consuming. By including taxes and duties in the initial pricing, backers are more likely to be satisfied with their purchase, leading to fewer returns.
Finally, collecting taxes at the checkout makes it easier for campaign creators to manage their finances. By knowing exactly how much revenue they will be generating from their campaign, creators can plan their expenses accordingly and avoid any surprises.
Overall, collecting EU and UK taxes at the checkout is an important step towards ensuring a successful and compliant Kickstarter campaign. It improves the customer experience, reduces returns, and makes it easier for creators to manage their finances.
EU VAT compliance and IOSS
The European Union’s Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) is a simplified VAT system that allows businesses selling goods to consumers in the EU to declare and pay VAT on those sales through a single online portal. The IOSS applies to goods imported into the EU with a VAT zero value of up to €150.
Starting July 1, 2021, the IOSS became possible for all online sellers, including Kickstarter creators, who sell goods to customers in the EU. This means that if you are a Kickstarter creator based outside the EU and you sell goods to customers in the EU with a value of up to €150, you can register for the IOSS and charge VAT on those sales.
To register for the IOSS, you will need to apply either directly if you are EU based or through an intermediary if you are non-EU. Non-EU companies can be registered for IOSS in any member state. Intermediary can file reports and pay VAT through the IOSS portal for non-EU companies.
